Workcamp 2009:
Mt. Rushmore,
South Dakota, June 2009
This year we loaded up 20 youth and 4 adult participants and headed for South Dakota. Once a stomping ground for Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane, Lead has historically been a mining town. Several years ago, however, the mine laid off half of its workforce, devastating the local economy. Lead is slowly recovering, but most jobs are now found in the lower-paying service and tourism sectors. With smaller paychecks, there's a great need for assistance with home repair, and there's a great opportunity to show the people of Lead, Jesus' love through service.
Why Workcamp? Many elderly and disadvantaged people have to make tough choices…like keeping a house warm in the winter or buying food and medicine. But we can help. We can help people in need with meaningful Christian home repair. And, at the same time, we will hear God’s Word…do God’s Word…and deepen our spiritual walk; all while providing meaningful service to people in need.

Workcamp Fundraisers/Service Projects
(fun & fellowship guaranteed…while also helping earn money for our mission trip)
Saturday, April 18: Neighbor’s Day in
La Crescent (Service Project 4 hours)
Who could forget the joy you brought to Ruth Malmin two years ago as she saw 30 youth with rakes (her yard hadn’t been raked in years!) and window washing rags lend a helping hand! More details to come. Check www.princeofpeacelacrescent.org for updated information. Click on youth, mission trips.
April/May: Selling Stock. (1 hour)
Last year we made over $2000 selling stock after worship services in April/May. All you need do is be available to sell stock downstairs in Fellowship Hall after each service. You need to do this only one Sunday. In August we’ll have our annual Stockholder’s Dinner with Program (what an awesome time we had last year).

Questions or Concerns:
1 John 3:18
As we serve others, we’ll ‘Love Out Loud’—not just think about it, not just talk about it, but do it! As we ‘Love Out Loud’ for others, we’ll experience the transforming love of Jesus in powerful ways, too. We’ll learn more about Jesus, who showed us how to ‘Love Out Loud’. And, of course, the loudest anyone has ever loved was when Jesus died on the cross for us.

“We may not have changed the world . . . but we sure made a difference in a little city in southern Kansas!”
Neodesha, Kansas, is not the same anymore after 47 people from Prince of Peace spent a week there giving homes a face lift. Homes were painted, porches repaired, wheelchair ramps built, and weatherization projects done.

But much more than home repairs happened during the week. Listen to a reporter’s story that appeared in the Neodesha Derrick on June 21st.
“Lives have been touched with love. If you have helped with this project in any way, you know what I’m talking about because you felt it. Within each of us there is a spirit that longs to connect with another human being. This spirit gets pushed down inside of us much like a seed hoping someday to push its way up out of the soil and grow. Conditions were right for growth this week. A big thank you to all of you who made that push and connected with your neighbors. Cherish that part of you that loves as God loves. Always remember that good feeling, fertilize it with more goodness and more love towards others, and the miracle of it all will make a difference and change our world.”
